An auto accident can create life-altering consequences. Those injured in such accidents can incur medical expenses due to treatment, as well as lost wages due to hospitalization and recovery time. Such financial challenges can also be accompanied by anger and frustration if the car accident was caused by negligence.

Five people were taken to a hospital after an accident in Coeymans, New York, recently that took place at the intersection of state Routes 32 and 143, which is south of Albany. A 40-year-old woman who was driving, as well as her four passengers, a 15-year-old female, a 16-year-old male, a 16-year-old female and an 18-month-old female, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries when the woman’s Jeep hit a snowdrift and left the roadway. The Jeep then smacked a guardrail, rolled over several times and eventually came to a rest on its roof. Three of the passengers who weren’t wearing seatbelts were ejected from the vehicle during the accident.

The driver allegedly told authorities she had taken several prescription drugs earlier that day. Authorities believe that act might have impaired her ability to operate a motor vehicle and led to the accident. Some prescription drugs carry explicit warnings to avoid driving while taking them.

Authorities have cited the woman for traffic violations, and she could be charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. If the results of the blood work show that the woman was indeed impaired, she could be classified as a negligent driver.
