Reckless driver drags pedestrian in car accident

On Behalf of | Mar 25, 2013 | Car Accidents

Reckless drivers increase the risk of harm not only for motorists but for pedestrians as well. For instance, a reckless driver speeding through an intersection recently hit a pedestrian and dragged her under his vehicle before coming to a stop. Albany pedestrians should be on the watch for reckless drivers in order to minimize their risks of being involved in a car accident.

In this recent case, a pedestrian was crossing the street when she was suddenly hit by a vehicle speeding through the intersection. An eyewitness reported hearing a big bang, then seeing a vehicle coming her way with a broken windshield and what she initially hoped was a garbage bag being dragged under the vehicle. Unfortunately, it was the pedestrian. Another witness reported that it appeared the reckless driver was racing another vehicle when he struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered severe trauma and was immediately taken to a local hospital where it was reported that she was likely to survive the accident.

Pedestrians who have been involved in a car accident may have a personal injury claim against the reckless driver that caused the accident. While hip and knee injuries are the most common injuries that occur in these circumstances, a pedestrian hit by a reckless driver can also experience more serious injuries, such as multiple fractures, spine injuries and brain injuries. It is very important that pedestrians involved in a car accident seek immediate medical attention to rule out fractures or more serious internal injuries. Compensation for medical bills may also be available in a personal injury claim against the reckless driver, not to mention compensation for lost wages, pain and suffering and other costs associated with the accident.

Albany pedestrians involved in a car accident should first protect their health by seeking medical attention. A personal injury claim can provide the compensation necessary for paying those medical bills. Pedestrians hit by a negligent driver should be aware that getting the right information can help to guide them through the recovery process.
