Investigation continues into fatal motorcycle crash

On Behalf of | Sep 22, 2012 | Motorcycle Accidents

An investigation is usually necessary to determine the cause of a motorcycle accident, even when there is no other vehicle involved. Usually the family of the victim would like to know what went wrong to cause the accident.

On Sept. 9, a 57-year-old resident of Caroga Lake, New York, was operating his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he hit a guard rail while attempting to negotiate a turn. He was thrown from his motorcycle, causing him to sustain serious injuries. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he died the next day. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Motorcycle accidents can result in severe and possibly fata injuries due to the fact that a motorcycle is not equipped with safety features like air bags and seatbelts, which can be found in cars or trucks.

Family members of victims of fatal motorcycle accidents should be aware of their rights. There tends to be a bias against motorcyclists being reckless drivers, which can be a barrier to receiving just compensation. But sometimes factors outside of the driver’s control can cause the accident. Perhaps there was another car driving recklessly, or maybe there was a manufacturing defect in the motorcycle that caused it to wreck.

Family members of motorcycle accident victims may be able to recover compensation if another party is held responsible for the crash. It is important for victims of motorcycle accidents and their families to fully understand all of their legal rights and options.
