Decisions made while intoxicated can sometimes lead to undesirable and potentially fatal results. Getting behind the wheel while drunk can often lead to a car accident and cause injury to innocent victims.

Readers in Albany may have heard of a crash involving a 21-year-old Albany woman that occurred across the Hudson in Rensselaer. According to police reports, the accident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 9. The woman’s car collided with a car driven by a 43-year-old male from Rensselaer.

Alcohol may have played a part in causing the accident. Police state that the woman had a blood alcohol content of around 0.20. It was unknown how much alcohol was in the Rensselaer man’s system, but both drivers were charged with DWI by the police. The man also reportedly suffered some minor injuries, which were treated. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, and the investigation continues.

Determining negligence when both parties in an incident are intoxicated could be difficult. However, victims of a drunk driver’s negligence need to be fully aware of their legal rights and alternatives. It is possible for victims who have suffered injuries due to a motor vehicle accident to receive compensation, which can help alleviate unexpected medical costs as well as provide financial support during recovery and rehabilitation. If anyone else had been injured in the accident, that person may have had grounds to file lawsuits against both drunk drivers.
