New York car accidents may result in driver arrests

A 56-year-old New York woman is charged with running a red light and leaving the scene of an accident, but she may be facing far more serious charges. Police say the woman is responsible for the death of one person and the injury of three others in the recent crash. Like many drivers in fatal car accidents, this woman must turn her focus to defending herself against the formal accusations.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. when the woman allegedly ran a red light at a high rate of speed and lost control of her sports car, causing it to jump the sidewalk. The car apparently struck a 21-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk, then slammed into a nearby tree. The impact of hitting the tree sent the car back into the roadway where it reportedly collided with a woman on a bicycle and two other cars.

All four victims were taken to various hospitals. The woman on the sidewalk died later of head trauma, and the bicyclist suffered head and shoulder injuries. The drivers of the cars received minor injuries. Meanwhile the driver of the sports car allegedly exited her vehicle and fled the scene on foot but later returned and was arrested.

When the investigation of this accident is complete, the driver will likely be facing charges that could potentially land her in prison. Car accidents that result in fatalities may bring serious consequences to those who are convicted in New York. An experienced attorney can develop a defense strategy that will assure one’s rights are fully protected while pursuing a favorable result.
