Stop Creditor Harassment
When you face financial difficulty, the stress of finding ways to pay your bills is often made worse by the endless stream of calls from creditors. They call at all hours of the day, send collection letters at an alarming rate, and may even make outright threats against you and your family. This can leave you feeling as though you will never escape from your debt and the constant harassment from creditors.
In these situations, the most important thing you can know is that you have options and there are ways to stop creditor harassment. The lawyers of O'Connor First are recognized throughout Upstate New York as innovative debt relief advocates who can stop creditor harassment, income executions (wage garnishments) and foreclosure. We have helped thousands of clients file for bankruptcy and reclaim control of their financial futures.
The Automatic Stay
When we help you file for bankruptcy, a legal mechanism known as the automatic stay takes effect. With this in place, all debt collection efforts, wage garnishments and foreclosure processes must stop immediately and cannot resume unless creditors obtain the permission of the bankruptcy court. Once the automatic stay becomes active, you will be able to work with us to establish a debt elimination or reduction plan without having to deal with creditor harassment getting in the way.
